Nourishing Salmon Pate Recipe

Spread the love

I grew up in the 80’s but there were loads of recipes hanging around from the 70’s, and one of them was Mum’s salmon pate. I loved that and as an adult I could see a lot of promise in the recipe. A few tweaks you know, to give it something healing and awesome. I had her send me the recipe and I converted it to suit our dairy free, gluten free diet and preference for nourishing ingredients like chicken bone broth and gelatine.  And here it is! Enjoy..

Nourishing Salmon Pate Recipe

  • 1 Cup Chicken Bone Broth
  • 2 Tbsp Great Lakes Gelatin
  • ~440-470g can MSC certified red salmon
  • 1/2 cup home made mayo (use my recipe here or the Breville The Boss blender is what we use now and their mayonnaise recipe is ridiculous!
  • 4 tsp lemon juice
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • 1 Cup Organic Coconut Cream
  • 2 spring onion green ends [which makes this Low FODMAP/no onion/tummy friendly]
  • Dark leafy greens/lettuce/raw ctrackers/GF crackers [choose your preference to serve]

How to make a gut healing Salmon Pate

Make your bone broth in the usual way. You can read my post on using your slow cooker to make bone broth here but for this chicken bone broth I made a very simple version, simply covering the leftover carcass of an organic chicken we had roasted with water and 1/4-1/2 cup of ACV, let that soak for around an hour, then brought the broth to the boil. I took the initial scum off the top to remove impurities for around 1 hour, and then left to barely simmer overnight. Strained that and had a beautiful clear broth glistening with good fats to use in this and many other recipes.

Use your blender to roughly chop the spring onion ends.

Our gorgeous, glistening chicken bone broth

Add your chicken bone broth and gelatine in the blender on high for 30 seconds, or in The Boss you want to use CHOP speed for 25 seconds.

Add salmon, mayo, lemon juice, salt and pepper and blend again for another 30 seconds on BLEND. If you want to add any herbs or spices or flavour this in any way other than we have done for the base recipe, now is the time.

Add the coconut cream and then PUREE for 15 seconds.

Pour into silicone molds like our Wean Meister or similar and refrigerate for 1-2 hours.

Turn out and serve with your favourite raw cracker, gluten free cracker, on toast, on celery.

I’m so excited. This is seriously one of the best recipes I have ever shared xxx

I know that for us being inspired and widening our repertoire of meals is something that takes a little effort, and it would make me happy for you all to gain from the work I have done putting these boards together.

It would also make me happy to see a foodie use this recipe and make it look more beautiful – as long as I am credited back of course! I was so itching to do something pretty with the styling but with baby in tow and a lot on my plate at the moment, I couldn’t manage it. Perhaps I will update the post in a while with a more attractive pic, but in the meantime I will know that the flavours and health benefits won’t let you down. Enjoy the clean eating recipe, and please let me know what you thought of it.
